Project Overview:
The USMID Moroto Road Project was a strategic infrastructure development initiative under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program, funded by the World Bank. The project focused on the consultancy services and supervision of construction works for selected infrastructure sub-projects in Cluster II within Moroto Municipal Council. Specifically, the project involved the upgrading of two municipal roads totaling 0.738 km to an Asphalt Concrete Surface, inclusive of associated ancillary works. The intervention was designed to improve urban mobility, enhance safety, and support sustainable municipal development in Moroto Municipality.
Our scope of work encompassed full consultancy services and construction supervision, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements. Key activities included site inspections, construction monitoring, quality assurance, coordination with contractors, and oversight of ancillary works such as drainage systems, road markings, and installation of solar-powered street lighting to enhance nighttime visibility and safety.
Project Objectives:
The primary objectives of the USMID Moroto Road Project were to:
Sustainable Practices:
In line with World Bank environmental and social safeguard policies, the project integrated sustainable construction practices throughout its implementation. Emphasis was placed on proper material selection, effective drainage design to reduce erosion, and the use of solar street lights to promote renewable energy utilization. These measures minimized environmental impact while ensuring long-term operational efficiency and sustainability of the road infrastructure.
Community Impact:
We believe the USMID Moroto Road Project has made a significant positive contribution to the Moroto community. Improved road infrastructure has enhanced mobility, reduced travel time, and increased safety, particularly during night hours due to solar street lighting. Beyond transportation benefits, the project supports urban development, improves access to social and economic services, and contributes to an overall improved quality of life for residents and visitors within Moroto Municipality.
