Project Overview:
The Nansana Municipal Council Selected Roads Project was a major urban infrastructure initiative implemented under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area – Urban Development Program (GKMA–UDP). The assignment involved the provision of consultancy services for engineering supervision of selected municipal roads aimed at improving connectivity, mobility, and service delivery within Nansana Municipality.

The project was implemented under Lot 4 and Lot 5, covering the upgrading of multiple strategic road links to paved standards to support rapid urban growth and improve transportation efficiency within the municipality.
Lot 4 comprised the upgrading of Nansana–Wamala–Katooke Road (4.87 km) and Maganjo–Jinja–Kaloori Link (1.109 km) to paved standards.
Lot 5 included the upgrading of Nansana–Nabweru Road (1.66 km), New Era–Nabweru–Katooke Link (2.70 km), New Era–Nabweru–Lugoba Link (0.80 km), and Nabweru–Kazo Central Link (1.60 km).

Project Objectives:
The primary objectives of the Nansana Municipal Council Selected Roads Project were to:
Scope of Services:
The consultancy services included full-time engineering supervision of construction works, quality assurance and control, monitoring of construction progress, verification of materials and workmanship, coordination with contractors and stakeholders, and certification of completed works. Supervision also covered drainage systems, road furniture, traffic management measures, and compliance with environmental and social safeguards.

Sustainability and Environmental Considerations:
Environmental sustainability and climate resilience were integral to the project. Supervision emphasized effective drainage solutions, erosion control, and adherence to environmental management plans to minimize construction-related impacts. All works were supervised in line with GKMA–UDP guidelines and applicable regulatory standards.
Community Impact:
The upgrading of these selected roads has significantly improved accessibility and mobility within Nansana Municipality. The improved road network enhances safety, supports local economic activities, and contributes to improved service delivery and quality of life for residents. The project plays a key role in advancing the municipality’s urban development objectives under the GKMA–UDP framework.
